The Responding to Disclosures of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Toolkit was created for service providers, practicum students, and community members with limited experience supporting survivors. It offers practical guidance to effectively respond to disclosures of GBV in one-on-one interactions or in group settings. The toolkit covers various types of violence that may be disclosed, examples of what a disclosure might sound like, including “indirect” disclosures that are easy to miss, and outlines appropriate and inappropriate responses. It offers tips for handling disclosures in group settings effectively and suggests self-care practices for care providers after receiving a disclosure.
